Proof That It Works

I've given my house an energy audit, changed all of my light bulbs, and replaced my thermostat with a digital model. And guess what? I'm saving energy AND money:

With all things being equal (cost of electricity, degree days, etc.), this is a savings of about $20 over last year. And, by using 173 fewer kilowatt hours, I kept about 167 pounds of coal in the ground this month.

Dare youself to save the world.

I spend $5,626 every year on energy for my home

Sam, so you're spending $468 a month on your NES bill? Just how big and drafty is your house?

Ha! Not quite. The energy audit gives you a total energy cost (electricity, gas, water, etc.). It also factors in stuff like old windows, and money you pay indirectly by not making improvements. It takes into account energy LOST by old ductwork and the like.

Thanks for explaining! Otherwise I thought you were going to be in for a long cold winter in the poor house.

We put several of those light bulbs in and we're still paying more than last year. And we're using more than you guys are in our little apartment. We are home most days though.
