Let Me Back Up a Second

As I thought, my writing about Southwestern's Home Ec offerings has gotten some attention, and I see where I might have come across as off-base.

Offering home-ec type courses are fine. That's the prerogative of any educational institution. Lots of people do need to take these kind of course for lots of reasons, and many are interested in the topics contained therein.

My main beef is that such an offering cements Southwestern's belief that women are not called to preach. And that's my problem.

Open these courses up to everyone (men and women), talk about how proper cooking and cleaning practices are beneficial for the environment, and we're cool. But, proclaiming that establishing gender roles will save the nation from destruction is a bit too far.

I can't argue with that. Not that I want to. Here, here.

Glad we agree on something other than you-know-who.
