For My First Act as President...

I love to hear about things like this. However, I don't see this happening in the US anytime soon, regardless of who's president in 2008. You also don't see many big business CEOs cutting their salary during a round of lay-offs. With social social progressiveness, will people now say they want to move to Mexico instead of Canada when fed up with agressive American mumbo jumbo?

Mexican president takes pay cut

That is admirable. Does the U.S. President still make $200,000? If so, I think it's remarkable that Mexico pays its president more, even after the pay cut. Don't worry--I'm not suggest that we give Bush a raise. ;)

I'd really like to see Congress take a pay cut and use the funds to pay an independent auditor to review its policies and procedures and figure out a way to make it more efficient. I think someone like Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer of New York would be perfect for this kind of job. There aren't enough people in Congress with the guts to do it, though.
